Coast’s Former giants Regain Glory As More Public Schools Shine In KCSE Exams.Sheikh Khalifa and Light Academy, two of the region’s traditional giants, performed admirably in the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education results.The top student in the region, however, is Said Rajab Said of Kenyatta High School Mwatate in Taita Taveta County, who received an A plain of 84 points.Last year, the top student at Kenyatta High School Mwatate received an A-minus grade. Sedra Fuad Sultan of Sheikh Khalifa is this year’s top girl, with 83 points.According to the results compiled at the time of going to press, Sheikh Khalifa has 10 A plains and 30 A minuses. Kenyatta High Mwatate received five A plains, while Light Academy Nyali received one A plain and nine A minuses.Sheikh Khalifa and Light Academy in Nyali received mean ratings of 9.1 and 8.7, respectively.Kenyatta High School Mwatate, Mwatate in Taita Taveta, Mama Ngina and Shimo La Tewa in Mombasa, and Kwale Boys in Kwale appear to have awoken from their slumber as well.Kenyatta High School in Mwatate received five A plains. The top student in the 2020 KCSE received A minuses. Mama Ngina Girls had a candidate with an A plain for the first time in twelve years.“So far, we have five plain A’s but we are still receiving more results,” said Mr Jones Mwanyumba, a director at Kenyatta High School Mwatate.He stated that the best candidate, Said Rajab Said, had a score of 84. Last year’s top student at Kenyatta High School Mwatate received an A minus.Others with an A of 82 points were Gabriel Wanyoro, William Luchika, and Munyau Mutinda, while Kiziwania Mwashigad Joshua had 81 points.Mama Ngina Girls posted one A plain in Mombasa for the first time in 12 years. It also increased the number of candidates with A minuses by threefold. Last year, the best candidate at the school received an A minus. “So far we have one A plain. The number of A minus has tripled from six to 19 from six we got last year,” said the school’s principal Mrs Mwanahamisi Omar.Naimu Bumu, the top student at Mama Ngina, received an A with 81 points. Kwale Boys, another public school, had five candidates with A minuses at the time of publication.Alijah Musembi finished first in Kwale Boys with a mean grade of A- of 76 points, and Kuno Boba Wario finished second with an A minus of 75 points. Zaid Juma Madzumba and Gogo Kitti Favour received A minuses as well.Sheikh Khalifa had 238 candidates, with the average score being C minus. Light Academy had 80 students, the last of whom also received a C minus.Sheikh Rishad Rajab, the deputy principal, spoke on behalf of Sheikh Khalia and attributed their success to the board of management’s support and the dedication of the staff and students.Despite the Covid-19 disruption, Light Academy principal Mehmet Ali Seker said the school performed well.ALSO READ:“We have been maintaining high standards.
