Class 6 Pupil Fake His Own Kidnapping And Demands KSh 15k Ransom
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are looking into a case in which an 11-year-old boy conspired with a man to stage his own kidnapping in order to steal KSh 15,000 from her aunt.
The Class Six student is said to have staged his kidnapping with the assistance of 35-year-old Dedan Gacheru Waweru, whom they called the boy’s aunt and demanded KSh 15,000 in ransom.
According to the DCI report, the worried aunt reported the kidnapping after receiving the distressing call that the boy had been kidnapped.
Detectives advised her to tell the kidnapper that she would pay the ransom in cash, to which Waweru agreed, unaware of the trap that sleuths had set for him.
To the surprise of the officers who had set up an ambush nearby, the boy was seen gleefully watching his alleged kidnapper march for the moneybag.
“They agreed to have the boy’s school bag (which had the money) placed at a strategic spot at Kabati flyover, where she was to drop the money and keep a safe distance. The boy, a pupil at Mangoto Primary School, would be released immediately after the money was collected,” DCI’s statement read.
The officers would later learn that the young boy intended to flee his home and travel to an unknown location.

This was after they discovered home clothes, a radio, and his aunt’s second phone, which was used to contact her.
"We urge parents to take note of this unfortunate trend where on various occasions detectives have scrupulously pursued reported cases of kidnappings, only to find out that the alleged victims were safely enjoying soft life with their ‘kidnappers’,“ the statement read.
