On Wednesday, April 5, law enforcement officers determined that June Jerop’s alleged boyfriend picked her up in a Mercedes Benz at her apartment in South B, Nairobi, on March 19.
According to CCTV footage obtained by detectives investigating the case, the two were captured moments later driving off to an unknown location.
The Mercedes was then located at a local pharmacy in Imara Daima, where the Kenyatta University master’s student was reportedly observed purchasing medication.
The police informed the Nation that detectives had analyzed phone data and were piecing together more information to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death. They stated that they already knew she had been murdered, and what they wanted to establish was the motive behind her killing.
Where they went after Imara Daima with her alleged lover was not immediately determined.
On the same evening, her alleged boyfriend drove to Bungoma in the same Mercedes he used to pick up Jerop at her apartment in South B.
Detectives, however, determined that he abandoned the vehicle in Bungoma and returned in a public transportation vehicle (PSV).
According to Jerop’s sister, she left after telling her friends she was going on a coffee date.
“Her friends told us she informed them that she was going to meet a male friend, but did not disclose much more about it,” Jerop’s sister stated.
Later, her lifeless body was discovered by pedestrians near Jamhuri Primary School. Preliminary reports indicate that her body had multiple deep bruises caused by a sharp or blunt object.
Following the leads, police arrested several suspects allegedly involved in the murder plot, including the man who picked her up.
Detectives collected samples from the Mercedes Benz, which they believed may have been used to transport the deceased body. They also began questioning her friends to determine what transpired.
