Education CS George Magoha has slammed opponents of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), claiming that it is well-funded by the Kenyan government and is used all over the world.
Magoha stated during the 17th Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association Annual Delegates Conference in Mombasa that all schools will receive their funds when schools reopen next week.
The CS also stated that textbooks for CBC grade 6 students, who are expected to take the national exam in December 2022 before moving on to junior secondary school in January 2023, will be printed and distributed by April 2022.
According to the CS, the ministry has spent Sh28.8 billion on textbooks for students in public primary and secondary schools since 2018.
Magoha also reassured the country of his ministry’s commitment to providing quality education through the CBC education system, including the provision of adequate learning and teaching resources in all public primary and secondary schools.
“Text books are available to every child. If one were to look back from 2018, we saved 70 percent and spent excess of Sh28.8 billion. We are going to ensure by the time we go to grade 6 April next year, grade 6 text books, which are currently printed, will be distributed to all children,” he said.
At the same time, Magoha praised KNEC reforms for restoring the once-vibrant examination institution’s glory.
Dr Julius Jwan, PS Early Learning and Basic Education, echoed the same sentiments, urging parents to take charge of their children, especially during the holidays.
Some parents, according to Jwan, do not want their children to stay at home.

Nicholas Maiyo, national chairman of the Kenya Parents Association, urged all stakeholders to play their roles effectively in children’s education.
According to Maiyo, the sector has faced challenges, particularly with regard to drug abuse and homosexuality.
Over 5,000 principals are attending the conference, which concludes on Thursday.
