Mr. Albert Ombiro, the principal of Cardinal Otunga High School in Kisii County, has praised the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for honoring him for the school’s outstanding performance on the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Last year, the school placed second in the nation’s examinations with a mean score of 10.76, and all students gained direct admission to university.

Ombiro told the press in Kisii town that he received his honor on Thursday during the World Teachers Day celebrations in Nairobi and thanked TSC for spearheading the recognition effort.

He expressed his pride in the Commission for permitting the exercise to occur, citing that teachers have received recognition in diverse fields such as academics, sports, music, drama, and athletics, among others.

The principal also thanked the school’s primary sponsors, the teachers, students, parents, the Board of Management, and the Catholic Church, for their contributions to the excellent performance.

TSC also recognized other secondary school principals who excelled in last year’s national exams, including Mr. Charles Onyari, principal of Nyambaria Boys, who emerged as the top school head nationally; Ms. Linet Sati, principal of Asumbi Girls; Mr. John Kuria, principal of Mang’u High School; and Mr. Simon Masibo, principal of St. Antony’s Boys School in Trans Nzoia.

The theme of this year’s World Teachers Day celebrations was “The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage,” and education stakeholders were urged to cease the global decline in the number of teachers and spark a resurgence of committed educators.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed this day after a meeting in Paris, France, between UNESCO and the International Labor Organization (ILO) to discuss issues affecting teachers.
