– A PSV matatu knocked down and killed a grade two pupil, Joy Nabwire,10, in Busia who was sent home to collect Kes. 100 fees arrears demanded by the school according to her mother Leah Juma.
After their 10-year-old pupil was killed by a speeding car in Teso South, Busia county, a family is demanding justice.
Joy Nabwire died on February 15 after allegedly being sent home from Otimong primary school for examination fee arrears totaling KSh 100.
Her parent says she was informed that her daughter had been dispatched to collect a KSh 100 balance. She went to the school and explained the situation to the principal.
“He assured me the school will stand with us. Schools should stop sending pupils home, instead, they should give them small notes to take to parents,” Nabwire’s mother Leah Juma told NTV Kenya.

Alpha Patrick, the grade two student’s uncle, demanded justice.
“Once the pupils are in schools, there is no need to send them back because these are minors who really do not understand traffic rules. In most cases, the parents may not have money,” he stated.
The deceased learner had returned home to collect a birth certificate for the National Education Management Information System registration (NEMIS), according to Busia county director of education Thaddeus Awuor.

“What has been reported on the press is not correct. These learners were told to come with copies of their birth certificates or baptismal cards so that they may be entered into the NEMIS.
Unfortunately, this kid had not brought hers so I think she felt shy and immediately the teacher left the classroom she went home to collect the same,” Awuor explained.
