Bursaries Delay As Form One Students Report To SchoolNeedy and vulnerable students who were expecting to benefit from the Elimu scholarship will have to wait a little longer after officials announced that the bursary scheme would be delayed for a few days.Form 1 enrollment will begin on Wednesday, but students will not be eligible for scholarships until then.Parents whose hopes were tied to the scholarships will now have to look for other ways to raise funds.Some 9,000 candidates who sat the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination will benefit from government scholarships for their secondary education.CS Education According to George Magoha, 4,000 slots will be reserved for students from the slums.“The aim is to enable learners to break the ceiling and liberate their families from dehumanising urban poverty,” he said.Orphans and students with special needs who scored less than 280 points may be considered.For four years, the scholarship covers transportation to and from school, school fees, a school kit, and pocket money.Magoha cautioned principals against requiring parents to pay full school fees.However, schools continue to require parents to pay first-term school fees before receiving their calling letters.“School fees payment must be made before admission, either in banker’s cheque or deposited in the school account,” an admission letter reads.Equity Group will pay Sh2 billion to sponsor 2,000 Wings to Fly scholars for the 2022-23 Form 1 selection cycle.The Wings to Fly Scholarship application and selection process for this year will benefit 1,000 students.The government has set aside Sh2 billion for free primary education and Sh16.9 billion for free secondary education.ALSO READ:Magoha stated that because this is the fifth cohort of students who have completed the transition to secondary school, he will conduct a mop-up of students, as he did last year.Last year, the CS went around the slums, selecting students who had been denied admission due to a lack of funds.Bursaries Delay As Form One Students Report To School
