Bungoma to Hire More ECDE Teachers
The government of Bungoma County, Kenya, is taking steps to increase the number of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers.
In an interview, Dr. David Wamamili, the Education Executive, expressed concern about the shortage of ECDE teachers in the area and stated that the government is actively seeking to recruit more.
He explained that many teachers have retired, resigned, or passed away, leading to the current shortage.
In addition to recruiting more ECDE teachers, the government is also planning to support feeding programs in schools.
According to Wamamili, the feeding program will improve the health of ECDE learners and enhance their overall wellbeing.
To support these efforts, the Bungoma County Children Rights Network (BCCRN) has pledged to work closely with the government to ensure the welfare of both teachers and learners.
The BCCRN Chairperson, David Lupao, spoke to the media during a stakeholders meeting and stated that his organization has a clear work plan for 2023, in which it will collaborate with other organizations to uphold children’s rights and hold those who violate these rights accountable.
Overall, the government of Bungoma County is taking a proactive approach to improving the quality of education and the wellbeing of ECDE learners.
By recruiting more teachers and supporting feeding programs, the government hopes to enhance the learning environment and support the growth and development of young children in the area.
“I have assessed the feeding culture in our schools and it is not appealing at all, we have a plan to improve it,” he said.
