Best Career Options For 700,000 KCSE Candidates With C+ and Below
In the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (KCSE), 708,071 candidates scored results lower than C+, the minimal university entry grade.
Only 173,345 candidates earned above C+, qualifying for slots in various universities around the country, according to the results announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Friday, January 20, at Mitihani House.
As a result, the government would support the 173,345 candidates and send them to various higher learning institutions through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
With the government pushing for a complete transition, all 881,416 candidates who took the 2022 KCSE exams are expected to be admitted to various institutions of higher learning, namely Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes and various colleges.
“I, therefore, direct the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service to move with speed and establish the number of places available in our universities, colleges and TVET institutions to enable the immediate commencement of the placement exercise,” Machogu directed.Career Options

CS Machogu asked the relevant agencies to develop ways to increase access to TVETs.
“Most of you by now know that President William Ruto is a firm believer in TVET Education. I, therefore, wish to urge all the stakeholders in this sector to rise up and be counted as we institute far-reaching reforms in the sector as would be recommended by the Presidential Working Party.
"Kenya National Qualification Authority (KNQA) and Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) must prepare to work to ensure that the agenda of TVET remains robust and able to spur the economy of Kenya through the production of well-trained youth,” The CS directed.
