Autopsy Reveals Cause of Death of Teacher Discovered in Boat-Like Coffin Inside His House
The strange condition in which the body of a 45-year-old Nyeri Computer Studies teacher was discovered prompted a range of responses and surprised many Kenyans.
After being absent for three weeks, he was discovered nailed in a boat-shaped improvised coffin within his home.
Wednesday, January 18, an autopsy was done at the Nyeri Provincial General Hospital Mortuary to determine the cause of the teacher’s death.
The autopsy also revealed that the KCSE examiner had neither consumed any poison nor had his body sustained any injuries.
An unidentified substance was discovered in the teacher’s casket, dispelling any doubts that he committed himself.
In addition, Philip Mwania, commander of the Tetu Sub-County Police, alleged that the man fastened himself inside the coffin to obstruct airflow.
The presence of a flashlight and a hammer in the casket suggests that the deceased used the flashlight to nail himself shut.
“We are still investigating the red liquid found inside the coffin. We initially suspected it could be the poison that killed the teacher,” Mwania stated.
Police discovered a black flag, scrolls written in what appeared to be an old Egyptian language, a cow horn, and flowers around the grave.
The police collected the scrolls and his laptop for additional study in order to decipher the enigmatic message communicated by the coffin’s contents.
According to his relatives, the teacher was notorious for disappearing for extended periods of time and turning off his phone. Also, he apparently received little visitors.
However, following his disappearance and the filing of a missing person report on December 22, 2022, his body was discovered rotting within the coffin in his home.
