Kilifi Top School that Outshined National Schools Laments ‘Poor’ Results in KCSE Arabuko Forest High School, once again, has secured its position as the leading school in Kilifi County in the recently unveiled KCSE results.
The Islamic boys’ high school, classified as an extra-county institution, outperformed Bahari Girls and Ribe Boys, the two national schools in Kilifi. With a mean grade of 8.144 (B-), Arabuko Forest High School excelled, surpassing Bahari’s mean grade of 7.69 (B-) and Ribe Boys’ mean grade of 6.79 (C+).

Arabuko Forest High School however expressed disappointment with the outcome of the 2023 KCSE examinations. The school believes the results do not accurately reflect the students’ performance.
Alawi Rashid, the principal of Arabuko Forest High School, proudly announced that 91% of the candidates who took the exam from the school are eligible for university admission.Mr Alwai Rashid stated that the school’s mean grade however fell below their expectations of 9.2 mean grade.
Out of the 97 students who sat the exam, 88 are set to join university, attributing this success to the harmonious collaboration among teachers, parents, and students.
Mr Rashid highlighted challenges faced by the school, refraining from providing specific details due to the shock they experienced. Despite high expectations and extensive preparations for the candidates in 2023, the school obtained a mean grade of B-. This was unexpected, considering their efforts for a much better performance.
In contrast to previous years where the school produced numerous A-grade students, this time, their leading four candidates scored B+. With 97 candidates, the school achieved a mean grade of B- (8.14) against their target of B (9.2). Mr Rashid expressed confusion over some good students not meeting their expected results and vice versa for those not performing well in class.

The Principal noted a slight drop in the school’s performance from 2022, where they registered a mean grade of 8.7 (B). However, he emphasized their pride in still being the top school in Kilifi County and surpassing many competitive schools regionally and nationally.
Arabuko Forest High School has shown improvement since 2016, when it scored a mean of 5.9 with 57 candidates. In comparison, Bahari Girls National School in Kilifi improved to a mean score of 7.65 (B-) from their target of 7.69 with 260 candidates.
Ms Hamaro Sylvano, the Principal, mentioned that one candidate couldn’t sit for the exams due to health complications. Ribe Boys High School, a national school in Kilifi, had 230 candidates with a mean score of 6.9. The top candidate scored an A, while six others had A-. Out of 230 candidates, 113 achieved a university entry score.
Kilifi North Sub County Director of Education Mr Hassan Abdulattif noted that some schools are still awaiting their complete results.
Bahari Girls’ chief principal, Hamaro Sylvano, shared the excitement of achieving the best results in the school’s history, with 192 out of 259 candidates qualifying for university.

Sylvano highlighted that the school exceeded its initial target of 7.5, achieving a remarkable 7.6. Judith Mapenzi, who emerged as the school’s top scorer with an A- and 80 points, revealed overcoming personal challenges, including the recent loss of her grandfather, with the support of teachers. She aspires to become a neurosurgeon.
Jackline Kagendo, scoring an A- with 79 points, credited her success to the discipline and teamwork fostered in the school. She expressed confidence that the discipline acquired will aid her in pursuing her dream of becoming a cardiologist.
