Between Monday, March 7, and Thursday, March 10, 1,225,507 candidates took the 2021 KCPE exam. This represented a 2.83 per cent increase over the 1,191,752 candidates who took the exam in 2020.
As the government moves to implement its 100% transition to secondary schools, the candidates will be assigned to one of 10,359 public schools.
In order to make up for lost time due to the pandemic, the Ministry of Education released a one-of-a-kind calendar that included five national examinations for the current academic year. Students across the country missed nine months of school in 2020.
The calendar presented a challenge to education stakeholders, as teachers were forced to move quickly and complete the syllabus within the time frame specified.
Magoha had promised candidates that the national examinations would have a human face, despite the nine-month hiatus.
