Academic Success and Funding Tips for New University Enrollees by Vice Chancellor

Students enrolling in universities have been reminded to apply for government funding as soon as possible to prevent being locked out when the portal closes.

University of Embu Vice Chancellor Prof. Daniel Mugendi, who is also the chair of the Vice Chancellors’ Committee, said students who were experiencing difficulties logging into the portal and completing the application process should seek assistance from their respective schools’ IT departments so that they are not left out when evaluation for funding level starts.

Prof. Mugendi was speaking on the grounds of the University of Embu when he presided over the Freshmen Matriculation Ceremony.

The VC claimed that young people in today’s society face a variety of issues and risk losing their way if they do not properly use their newly acquired freedom.

He advised new students not to become so engrossed in college social life that their academic performance suffers.

He advised them to properly manage their maintenance funds by avoiding behaviors that could quickly deplete them, leaving them in dire straits.

He stated that some students spend their money on alcohol and others on wagering until they have nothing.

The Vice-Chancellor observed that many young people have become so dependent on narcotics that they cannot attend their classes, resulting in academic failure.

The dean informed the students that they would be expected to uphold academic integrity at all times and that exam plagiarism would result in expulsion.

Saying that the students should be content with what they have, he emphasized that they should avoid desiring things they cannot afford, which could tempt them to engage in criminality and other vices such as prostitution and the “sponsor culture.”

He told the new students that they are from various parts of the country and have different social backgrounds, and he urged them to embrace diversity and form new friendships that will contribute to the promotion of national peace and unity.
