KUPPET Laments Growing Workload and Policy Confusion Facing Teachers.

The KUPPET Secretary-General Akello Misori has decried the increasing workload and lack of clear policy direction facing teachers across the country.

Speaking during World Teachers’ Day, Misori said many teachers are shouldering more responsibilities without corresponding support or resources, citing that many teachers are assigned duties on behalf of other agencies without pay.

He noted that these added responsibilities combined with inconsistent policy guidelines have made work difficult for teachers especially those involved in co-curricular and administrative duties.

“Some teachers who do assignments on behalf of other agencies or manage co-curricular activities have not been paid. We have more work and sometimes unclear policy guidelines,” Misori said.

The KUPPET Secretary-General further said teachers’ effectiveness and morale is being eroded by these challenges and called on Ministry of Education and TSC to streamline policy implementation and provide facilitation for all duties assigned to teachers.

He said while teaching is the backbone of national development, unresolved issues of workload, delayed payments and policy confusion is strangling the sector.

Misori urged stakeholders to prioritize teacher welfare and policy coherence as part of the ongoing reforms in the education system and reaffirmed KUPPET’s commitment to fight for fair working conditions and institutional accountability.
