Education Stakeholders Call for Integration of Multilingual Learning into National Curriculum.

Education stakeholders have asked the government to include multilingual learning in the curriculum so that learners can be equipped to participate in global opportunities.

This was during a multilingual festival in Nyali, Mombasa County where 10 schools showcased foreign languages including French, German and Spanish. Parents, teachers and learners attended the event and emphasized the importance of multilingual education in communication, creativity and critical thinking.

Stakeholders said multilingual learning goes beyond learning new languages, it expands the horizons of learners by fostering creativity, improving communication and preparing young people to participate confidently in a globalised world.

They also noted that proficiency in multiple languages opens up job opportunities and makes learners leaders, innovators and change makers in Africa’s future.

Learners demonstrated practical outcomes by reciting poems and performing in different languages. Participants also highlighted the role of multilingual learning in national cohesion and integration by appreciating cultural diversity.

Education stakeholders concluded by asking teachers to include co-curricular activities that complement classroom instruction, noting that such initiatives contribute to the overall development of learners.
