52,000 Form One Students to Get Scholarships, Says CS Machogu

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has stated that vulnerable and marginalized students with marks of 280 and above will get scholarships.

Machogu revealed that a total of 14,426 students, will be eligible for government scholarships.

Candidates with special needs and impairments who scored 280 or lower will be eligible for the scholarships, as will refugees who scored 240 (girls) or 250 (boys).

The Elimu scholarships, given in collaboration with the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation and the Equity Group Foundations, will bring the total number of recipients to 52,000.

Ezekiel Machogu, Cabinet Secretary for Education was speaking during the official release of secondary school placement results for the Kenya Certificate of Primary School Education (KCPE) exam in 2023.

The Ministry announced the Form One selection results on Monday, December 18, just a month after releasing the 2023 KCPE exam results.

While announcing the placement results, Machogu stated that 1,400,329 students out of 1,406, 557 who took the KCPE exam were able to earn slots in various high schools around the country.

Throughout the country, the government has placed 42,927 students to national schools. There are 22,051 boys and 20,876 girls among the top scorers.

Similarly, 274,746 children will attend extra-county schools, with 141,590 boys and 133,156 girls, while 288,201 will attend county schools.

According to CS Machogu, sub-county schools had the biggest number of Form One placements (792,230), with 423,171 boys and 369,059 girls.

Another 2,225 students will attend Special Needs Schools.

All candidates who scored 400 or higher in the placement were placed in either national or extra-county schools of their choice. Similarly, all other candidates were assigned to county or sub-county schools based on the conditions established.

Learners with special needs were placed in regular or Special Needs schools based on their disability categories, merit, and choice.
