45 Students Injured As School Bus Overturns
On Thursday, January 27, a school bus overturned in the Mamboleo area along the busy Kisumu-Kakamega road, injuring at least 45 students.
According to reports, Thurgem Secondary School students were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Even as police moved in to conduct preliminary investigations, the exact cause of the accident had not been determined at the time of going to press.
The police were also called in to help control the crowd that had gathered to witness and rescue the students.
Locals helped the students who were writhing in pain and screaming to get out of the vehicle.
Kisumu Central OCPD Anthony Maina told the media at the scene that 44 students and four teachers had boarded the bus.
The school bus was returning from the Bukura area to Thur-Gem school in Nyakach when it was involved in an accident.
This incident occurred just months after another Gititu mixed secondary school bus in Murang’a was involved in a road accident after the bus they were riding in overturned.
According to reports, several students were injured when the bus overturned just minutes after leaving the school.
Makuyu police chief Alexander Shikondi confirmed the tragic incident, stating that the bus driver was killed in the accident.
According to the police chief, the bus lost control at a sharp corner, causing it to overturn with students on board.

This comes just days after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) considered implementing a new system aimed at all motorists.
The NTSA stated that the system is intended to harmonise and synchronize the digital system under the Transport Integrated Management System in order to provide relevant information about all vehicles.
