The Ministry of Education has approved a number of private schools to provide junior secondary education.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) opened the portal for school selection. The portal will remain open for two weeks.

Nairobi County has the most approved private schools, according to a list distributed to school principals.

Nairobi county has 142 schools, while Kiambu county has 114.

A number of counties have approved fewer than ten schools, implying that more students in the selected counties will attend public schools.

Elgeyo Marakwet, Turkana, and Samburu counties each have one school approved, while Narok and Kericho have two.

CS Education While releasing the placement guidelines, George Magoha stated that parents should choose private schools that they can afford.

“Parents shall meet the cost of learning in private schools as is the usual practice,” he said.

The placement includes the names of both public and private schools, but the list of public schools has yet to be received.

Selection of admission will be based on merit, affirmative action, school choice, and the declared capacity of institutions.

According to the outgoing CS, a junior secondary school should have a science laboratory as well as storage cabinets.
