30,000 Youths to Join National Youth Service (NYS) This Year
Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has revealed that the national government plans to enlist 30,000 youths for the National Youth Service (NYS) this year. The recruitment process will be carried out in two phases, with the first phase scheduled for this month and the second set for July.
In the preceding year, a total of 20,000 youths were recruited, with 10,000 selected in January and an additional 10,000 in July. Notably, President [President’s Name] has mandated that 30% of all disciplined forces’ recruitments should be sourced from NYS.

Kuria emphasized the transformed nature of the NYS, urging aspiring recruits not to seek political leaders’ assistance if they miss the recruitment opportunity.
The recruits will undergo a comprehensive four-to-six-month training program before the selection process for various forces such as the army, police, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and Kenya Forest Service (KFS).
To enhance transparency and combat corruption in the recruitment process, Kuria announced that interested youths must register through E-Citizen once recruitments are announced.
A unique registration number will then grant access to recruitment venues, allowing for effective tracking of registered individuals against those selected. Kuria highlighted that NYS is committed to benefiting all 1,450 wards in the country.

Once enrolled, recruited youths will have access to employment opportunities locally and internationally. Kuria shared his efforts in securing job opportunities for the youth, mentioning the imminent departure of 200 youths—100 to Israel and another 100 to Kuwait.
Emphasizing the irreversible commitment of joining NYS, Kuria discouraged any expectation of returning to the village, stressing that the recruits would either find job opportunities within the country or abroad.
Despite economic challenges, he appealed to Kenyans to be patient and have faith in the Kenya Kwanza administration, likening the process to a necessary but time-consuming medical treatment.
