30 Counties Complete CBC Classroom Contruction Ahead of JSS Transition
Prof. George Magoha, the Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), has noted that approximately 30 counties across the country have completed their construction ahead of the transition to junior secondary school.
Magoha was speaking during his tour of the projects at Uasin Gishu High School and Moi Girls High School Eldoret.
The Education Secretary stated that his ministry was focused on delivering the 10,000 classrooms and that they had already completed 9000.
Prof. Magoha stated that the government is eager to implement CBC, which currently serves approximately 10 million children, by training teachers on the subject.
“We have less than 900 classrooms to complete and we are at the roofing level, a performance target we have to deliver and the glory goes to our contractors at the grassroots level who have benefited from this and also the resolve of the principals who have worked together with us,” said prof. Magoha.
“We have trained grade 7 and 8 teachers on CBC implementation; grade 9 will be trained in January by the new government of the Republic of Kenya, and there is never a vacuum in government.
“With 10 million children on CBC, no government is going to consider removing CBC, it will basically work to improve it,” he added.
He reassured parents that the CBC system is well-structured to help children perform well in their exams, while also urging them not to be concerned about the fate of CBC following the transition of the government’s administration when the new president takes office.
“We should have positive thinking for our children, nothing is going to happen. In terms of exams, I want to encourage the children here that, I have assessed a large number of children across the country, they can pass the exam even if they were to sit for it today,” he said.
He also stated that the CBC is not planning to abolish boarding schools, but rather may allow the government to invest less in boarding schools.
