Ezekiel Machogu, Cabinet Secretary for Education, has stated that a total of 28,052 candidates who took the 2023 KCPE exams failed to select secondary schools.

Machogu made the remarks at Lenana School on Monday, as he announced the 2024 Form One Placement results.

“This situation presented us with a dilemma, as we sought to ensure that every candidate had a placement that would enable them to continue their education seamlessly,” she said.

He stated that the 28,052 candidates did not select schools among the current 222 National schools, 4,837 Extra County schools, 8,716 County, and 14,277 Sub-county schools.

Machogu stated that 683 candidates were from the Nyandarua sub-county of Wanjohi and 330 were from Bungoma County’s Kopsiro sub-county.

Despite not choosing specific schools, Machogu ensured that the ministry placed the students somewhere.

A decision was reached to place these candidates in public sub-county secondary schools that were nearest to their former primary schools, Machogu said in a press release.

According to CS Machogu, the results for the placement are now available by accessing the Ministry’s official website at www.education.go.ke or www.kemis.education.go.ke.

Candidates can examine their results and download joining instructions on both of the platforms.

After the download of the joining instructions letter, CS Machogu directed parents and the candidate to attend their primary schools to verify the letter.

The CS emphasized that the candidate must present the letter to the headteacher of the primary school where they sat their KCPE Examination for authentication.

The letter will undergo additional verification by the principal of the admitting school.
