27 Arrested Countrywide Over KCSE Examination Irregularities; Siaya, Samburu, Kericho and Kitui Tops.
A total of 27 have been arrested across the country over examination irregularities in the ongoing KCSE.
According to reports, 19 were arrested for examination malpractice. A special police unit deployed to curb cheating arrested 5 impostors who were writing exams on behalf of registered candidates at two centres in Nairobi and Kericho.
KNEC also confirmed that 17 mobile phones were confiscated from candidates in Moyale and Saku Constituency in Marsabit on the second day of the KCSE exams. Investigations are ongoing to establish the extent of collusion and to identify all those involved.
Siaya, Samburu, Kericho and Kitui had the highest number of arrests. At Siaya Rachar Secondary School in Siaya, 5 were arrested including School Principal Patrick Omondi, Invigilator Paul Akumba, Centre Supervisor Victor Amollo, School Secretary Faith Odhiambo and School Cook Milicent Aluoch.
In Samburu, 3 officials from Moi Girls High School, Maralal were arrested. The suspects are Centre Manager Peter Loong’ono, Examination Supervisor John Lolmeweti and Dean of Studies Robert Omondi Odhiambo.
At Kericho Day Secondary School in Kericho, 3 university students were arrested for impersonation. The suspects are Duncan Kipkemoi Kipkirui of Kenyatta University, Amos Korir Kipyegon of Kabianga University and Desmond Kipkorir Bett of Kabianga University who was sitting for Aaron Kipong Yeno, Aaron Kiptoeno and Desmond Kipkorir Bett of Kabianga University who were writing exams for Joffrey Kipyegon and Amos Korir Kipyegon.
In Kongini, South C estate in Nairobi, two others were arrested while trying to sit for two candidates who had each paid KES 30,000 and KES 20,000 for the impersonation. More arrests were also reported in Kitui, Nyamira and Bungoma counties.
In Marsabit County, 8 were arrested after incidents at Sessi Mixed Secondary School in Moyale where 9 students were found with mobile phones. 8 private candidates were also arrested in Saku constituency for similar offences.

Assistant County Commissioner for Marsabit Central, David Saruni said the affected candidates were allowed to sit for the Chemistry Paper 1 as investigations continue. The DCI has since launched a thorough investigation into the reported malpractices.
The Government has assured that examinations will continue in all affected schools. But candidates, teachers and officials involved in examination malpractice will face disciplinary and criminal charges as investigations go on.
