2500 Needy Students Benefit From Sh25 Million Kajiado Bursary
Over 2500 needy students in Kajiado East Constituency have received Sh25 million in bursaries from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
While handing over the cheques to the beneficiaries at the NGCDF offices in Kitengela town, Kajiado East Member of Parliament Peris Tobiko noted that the funds would benefit 197 university students and 148 college students.
According to the legislator, 1,927 secondary school students will receive bursaries, while 66 others will receive full scholarships.
Tobiko revealed that the bursary only targets students from low-income families and that a committee chooses the beneficiaries from each of the 20 locations.
“This criterion ensures that the targeted groups are genuine and there is no biasness in allocation. Those who have benefitted are the ones who are in dire need and whose education may be cut short if they do not receive the bursary to pay their fees,” she said.
Tobiko went on to say that, in addition to bursaries, her office had funded the construction of classrooms, libraries, toilets, and dormitories in an effort to promote education by providing a conducive environment for students.
She warned principals against misappropriating funds and urged them to be transparent in order to improve school infrastructure.
