2024 KCSE Results: Over 200k Eligible for University Admission.
The Ministry of Education has officially announced the highly anticipated 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, revealing significant achievements by students despite numerous challenges.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba unveiled the results on Thursday, January 9, during a press briefing held at Mitihani House in South C, Nairobi.
This fulfilled the ministry’s earlier commitment to release the results in the second week of January, following prolonged anticipation by candidates and their parents.
The CS reported that a total of 962,512 students sat for the national exams, which were conducted across 10,754 centres countrywide.
The ministry acknowledged that students had faced significant disruptions during their four years of secondary education, including the impact of floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.
How Many Students Scored C+ and Above?
Among the candidates, a substantial number excelled, with some attaining the prestigious A grade.
Education CS Ogamba stated that 246,391 students achieved the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above, attributing the success to a revamped grading system.
He praised the students for their resilience and dedication, emphasizing that those who qualified would proceed to join higher education institutions later this year.
The announcement ended weeks of anxiety and speculation among parents and students, some of whom had expressed concerns about the perceived delay in releasing the results.

Meanwhile, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) had released the 2024 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) results two days earlier, on Tuesday, January 7. The results were shared on KNEC’s official Facebook and X platforms.
Teachers who oversaw the assessments were instructed to access the performance reports and results through the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal.
However, some parents reported difficulties accessing the portal, claiming it displayed 2023 results instead of the latest ones.
