2023 KPSEA Results To Be Released Before January — KNEC

The CEO of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), David Njengere, emphasized that the marking of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) took precedence over the grading of the grade six Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) to afford ample preparation time for the 1.4 million students transitioning to high school.

Njengere communicated to parents of KPSEA candidates that the Ministry prioritized marking KCPE to ensure ample time for placing the 1.4 million candidates in secondary schools. He provided assurance that the KPSEA results were in the final stages of preparation.

During the release of the KCPE exams on November 23, Njengere outlined three reporting levels, including individual learner reports, school-specific reports, and a national report. He affirmed the KNEC’s commitment to finalizing the KPSEA reports before learners embark on junior secondary schools in January 2024.

Unlike the elaborate ceremonies for releasing KCPE, the unveiling of KPSEA exams will be more subdued. The assessments covered five subjects: Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Integrated Science, and Social Studies and Creative Arts.

Integrated Science featured a comprehensive paper merging Science and Technology, Agriculture, Home Science, and Physical Health and Education.

In the same vein, the consolidation of Social Studies and Creative Arts encompassed a single paper, addressing Social Studies, religious studies (CRE/IRE/HRE), Arts and Crafts, and Music.

This year’s cohort, comprising approximately 1.4 million candidates, marked the final group undertaking the KCPE as the country transitions to the full implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in primary schools.

Discussing the transition, Joe Nyutu, Chair of the Senate Education Committee, extended well wishes to the candidates, highlighting that CBC will assess learners at multiple levels beyond academics, addressing employment concerns.

MP Julius Melly, Chair of the National Assembly Education Committee, acknowledged parliamentary efforts to ensure the integrity of national exams.

Melly recognized the challenges associated with KPSEA but urged a thorough evaluation of the system, emphasizing that Parliament has ensured the credibility of National Exams. He affirmed that the Ministry has implemented resolutions highlighted by the Public Inquiry on Education Committee, addressing challenges.

As the nation eagerly awaits the release of KPSEA results, marking the second exam under CBC, the education sector prepares for a new era characterized by the full adoption of the Competency-Based Curriculum.
