2023 KCSE Results: Thika High School Regains Lost Academic Glory

Thika High School in Kiambu County has once again achieved remarkable success in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams. Out of the 450 candidates who sat for the exams, an impressive 351 have qualified for university admission.

The school’s mean score rose to 7.93, a significant improvement from the 7.61 recorded in 2022. The detailed breakdown of grades includes four candidates who scored A plain, 28 with A-, 69 boys achieving B plus, 79 with a B, 87 at B-, 84 with C plus, 51 at C, 33 with C-, and 11 scoring D plus. Additionally, four candidates secured a D grade.

Senior Principal Julius Muraya attributed this outstanding performance to the collective hard work and dedication of both students and teaching staff. He proudly stated that sending 351 candidates to university is a record achievement for the school, emphasizing the payoff from the commitment and resilience demonstrated by the students.

Established in 1956 by the Presbyterian Church of Eastern Africa (PCEA), Thika High School has consistently proven to be an academic powerhouse, producing notable figures like the current Public Service Cabinet Secretary, Moses Kuria.

Despite facing challenges, such as inadequate infrastructure due to a growing student population, the school remains dedicated to providing quality education. Principal Muraya revealed that the school has experienced a substantial increase in student enrollment. In the 2024 academic year, they anticipate 482 candidates sitting for examinations, hoping for even better results.

Clinton Mugama, who achieved a straight A, credited his success to the unwavering support of his teachers and parents. Expressing his aspirations to become a pilot, Mugama is eager to pursue aviation studies.

Meanwhile, at Thika Girls Karibaribi, Principal Faith Wawira acknowledged the school’s rapid growth despite being only six years old, currently hosting over 1,000 students. She highlighted the infrastructural challenges posed by the expanding population and called for government support in addressing these issues.

Karibaribi Elizabeth Wangare of Thika Girls emerged as the top performer with an A-. Wangare, a beneficiary of the Equity Bank Wings to Fly Scholarship, aims to study Medicine and contribute to saving lives.

In the midst of challenges, parents like Nancy Njoki expressed joy and hope for the future, emphasizing the transformative impact of education on their families. The exceptional achievements of Thika High School and Thika Girls Karibaribi underscore the importance of addressing infrastructural needs to accommodate the growing demand for quality education in the region.
