Prof George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, has stated that the government will prioritize bursaries and scholarships for KCPE 2021 candidates who will attend boarding schools.
Magoha urged members of parliament to ensure fairness in the process of allocating funds when he announced the placement of Form Ones on Monday, April 11.
He went on to say that some unscrupulous politicians stole some of the bursary money intended for day-secondary students.
In reference to this, Magoha stated that his Ministry would advocate for bursaries and scholarships for students attending boarding schools.
“The government pays for school fees for every child in a day secondary school so If you’re going to give a lot of funds to such candidates, that money may end up in your pockets.”
“We are going to advise that you give the scholarships to only children who are going to boarding schools because the only thing that the day scholars require is school uniform and lunch money. In my case I skipped many lunch monies but does it reflect?” he posed.
The CS stated that form one students will report on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, while announcing the placement of over 1.2 million students in secondary schools.
He went on to say that 38,797 KCPE candidates had been accepted into national schools. Furthermore, as part of the government’s 100% transition program, over 1.2 million candidates were placed in secondary schools.
Candidates interested in receiving a Ministry of Education bursary or loan must apply online through the Ministry’s official website.
