20 University Courses Rejected By KCSE Candidates Since 2019

In the past few years, the Ministry of Education has grappled with a significant challenge in placing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates into universities and higher education institutions.

Since 2019, KCSE candidates have been turning away from several university courses, citing reasons ranging from poor teacher guidance to issues with the selection process.

The rejected courses include:

  2. Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship
  3. Theology
  4. Bachelor of Science (Energy Technology)

  7. Bachelor of Science in Oceanography
  8. Bachelor of Science in Aquatic Resources Conservation and Development with IT
  9. Bachelor of Science in Animal Production
  10. Bachelor of Arts in Counselling Psychology
  11. Bachelor of Arts in Church Educational Ministries
  12. Bachelor of Technology in Medical Engineering
  13. Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture and Fisheries Technology

Why Students Rejecting Courses

The rejection trend is attributed to a lack of proper guidance for students, with a significant number choosing courses without adequate assistance. Common issues include candidates enrolling in competitive courses across all four KUCCPS slots and selecting the same course multiple times.

To address these challenges, teachers in charge of career departments are advised to actively assist students in choosing suitable degrees, diplomas, certificates, and artisan programs. Additionally, local leaders and politicians are encouraged to motivate government scholarship recipients to apply for admission to universities and colleges.
