1,500 Former Kapsabet Girls Students To Build Sh70 Million Dormitory
After learning about the facilities at Kapsabet Girls National High School in Nandi, former students launched an ambitious plan to build a Sh70 million dormitory.
The Court of Appeal Judge Fatuma Sichale and Kenya Dairy Board managing director Margaret Kibogy are two of the school’s high-profile former students who will participate in a series of fundraising activities as part of the ‘Road to Sh70 million’ initiative.
They hope to raise $600,000 through fundraising events such as road walks, homecoming events, and a dinner dance. Hellen Yego, the group’s leader, stated that the school’s former students are spread across Kenya.
“Currently, we have been supporting needy students in the school to raise school fees. A hundred per cent transition has led to an increase in the number of students, and we have decided to set up a 600-bed dormitory at a cost of Sh70 million,” Yego, who is the group’s chair, said yesterday.
Yego stated that they expect at least 1,500 former Kapsabet Girls students from Kenya and other countries to participate in the series of fundraising activities.
Former students have planned a series of events to give back to their former school.
According to Yego, the school built a makeshift dormitory in response to an increase in student enrollment.
For example, the alumnae have planned a homecoming on October 22 to bring together former students at the school.
“All former students will be assembling at the school for a homecoming event that will be championed by Dr Wamuyu Mugo from Nyeri,” Yego said.
