14 suspended students unconditionally readmitted after Mugoiri School food drama.
Fourteen Mugoiri Girls High School students who were suspended for allegedly serving special meals reserved for colleagues with medical conditions will be readmitted unconditionally.
The letters, signed by the school’s Principal Susan Mundia, instructed the students to return to the school with their parents or guardians to face a disciplinary committee.
The 14 girls who were suspended on January 19 had been directed to return to school on Tuesday, January 25, with Ksh10,550 in a suspension letter that circulated on social media.
“…you have been sent home this 19th January 2022 up to January 25, 2022, for the offence of taking servings of the special meal on January 16 occasioning those deserving to miss food…”
“The amounts to be raised will cater for a day’s special meal for all deserving students,” Ms Mundia said.
The school explained that the funds would be used to prepare a special meal for the other students. They also stated that as a result of the 14 students’ actions, some of the students missed the special meal.
“The decision had been arrived at by my deputy who is only one week old in this school,” she said.
Some parents were threatening to sue the school.
Following consultations with the school’s management board, it was decided that the girls would be readmitted unconditionally.
Ms Mundia stated that she contacted the school’s administration after some parents called her to inquire about their daughters’ suspension.
