14 Students Suspended for Overeating Recalled To Provide Special Meal For The Whole School.
Mugoiri Girls High School in Murang’a County has recalled 14 students who had been suspended for getting a second helping of a special meal.
The school administration made the decision after a section of Kenyans took to social media to express their outrage over the students’ suspension, describing the incident as a minor case of indiscipline.
The 14 girls who were suspended on January 19 were directed to return to school on Tuesday, January 25, with Ksh10,550 in a suspension letter that circulated on social media.
The school explained that the funds would be used to prepare a special meal for the other students. They also stated that as a result of the 14 students’ actions, some of the students missed the special meal.
“You are requested to accompany her back to school on January 25, to meet with the disciplinary committee. Pay Ksh10,550 to cater for the special meal for the whole school,“ the letter read.

However, Susan Mundia, the school principal, stated that the suspension was carried out by the deputy principal while she was away.
She went on to say that the schools’ Board of Management (BOM) reversed the suspension after she called the parents and apologized for the incident.
“This was a mistake, but it happened when I was away but I take responsibility for it being the head of school,”
"I called the parents and apologized for the turn of events, and they are comfortable returning their daughters to school,” the principal said.

Ndugu Nyoro, on his social media account brought the story to light, revealed that he had a conversation with the principal, who also explained that they would look into alternative punishments for the students.
“Upon coming back to school, she has been reaching out to the parents of the students to bring back their children for alternative ways of correcting the mistake.
“Other ways a mother would do to achieve similar or better results, without punishing parents,” Nyoro stated.
